Tickets are on sale for this year's St. Jude dream home. We talk about helping the children of St. Jude, and here's one of them. Ryan Auten, from Marshall County, was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.
After school Tuesday, Ryan and his family came to Paducah to buy the ceremonial first ticket at Regions Bank in Lone Oak.
The suspense was building as Ryan prepared for a big run through the halls of Central Elementary. But what's another two or three minutes to wait for a moment that's been building for almost three years?
After 935 days of treatments, Ryan and his family can finally say "No mo' chemo!" That phrase was the cue for Ryan and his friend Owen to take off in the big run.
"Those kids have been with him since kindergarten," Ryan's mom, Becky Auten said of her son's classmates. "They help carry his books and when he gets sick and throws up. They get his stuff together, and bring his homework home. The kids here have just been really special, as special as the teachers."
It wasn't Ryan's first party of this kind. Every child who's a patient at St. Jude gets a big "No Mo Chemo" party in Memphis at St. Jude once they're finished with chemotherapy.
You can buy a ticket to help hundreds of kids like Ryan. The tickets are $100 each. You can buy one at any western Kentucky Regions Bank, at Lowell King Insurance in Bardwell, or by calling 1-800-382-8604. For more information, click here.
The big dream home giveaway show is Sunday, July 31, on Local 6.
