WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL -

A Herrin man was indicted on a federal firearm charge Tuesday, according to Active U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois James Porter.

Porter says 36-year-old Russell Morris was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, which he is alleged to have committed on Jan. 29 in Williamson County.

The charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Morris is scheduled to make his first court appearance about the charge on Thursday.
