Damage from tornado estimated in the millions

Posted: Updated:
GRAVES COUNTY, KY -

More information was given this morning on the tornado that touched down in Graves County.

Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said the first 9-1-1 call of a tornado on the ground came in at 2:45 p.m.

He said emergency crews immediately set off sirens and his deputies set out to respond.

If was then that Redmon said he saw an act of God.

"God was with us yesterday and he shifted that tornado before it got to that school, I saw it. If you go to church this Sunday, and you got kids that go to that elementary school, you better get on your knees and pray because God saved your kids," said Redmon.

The National Weather Service is continuing to survey the damage. Right now they estimate the track of damage could be 15 miles long, and the tornado may have peaked on the low end of an EF3 with winds reaching 140 miles per hour.

Damage to the area is estimated in the millions of dollars.
