Structures that once stood stall are now demolished. Trees were split down the middle, and vehicles were damaged from flying debris.
That's what Tuesday's tornado did to Hawkins Used Auto Parts, a salvage yard in Mayfield. Ronnie Egner was working when it happened.
"Pretty calm outside and then the tornado warning went off," says Egner.
That's about when he decided to take cover.
Egner and some other employees went to a nearby home and found shelter in the basement.
When the weather calmed down, they went outside to assess the damages.
"It was just devastating, yes," says Egner. "No words can describe it. I hope we never see another one."
Cleanup has already started, and Egner says he thinks they'll be done by this time next year. In the meantime, Hawkins Used Auto Parts is still open for business.
