Donation center open for tornado victims

MAYFIELD, KY (AP) -

Amber France's Graves County home took a powerful hit from Tuesday's tornado.  Her home still stands, but much of the inside is destroyed.

"Trees were uprooted, and I was beside myself. Total shock," France said.

She spent much of Wednesday at the donation center at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds. She picked up much-needed supplies.

The organizer of of the donation center is a high school senior. He didn't go to school Wednesday, and decided he could do more outside of school. "I put my family above all else, but my community comes after my family," said Zach Heath.

He called the support overwhelming. Truckloads of supplies, including water and food, are available for families who need it.  "All the community outpour that we've had has been positive, and we just want to make a positive impact," Heath said.

France is feeling that impact. She's grateful for the volunteers and the strangers who are giving her a much-needed boost.

"The people that have donated here, I mean, it's just unbelievable," France said.
