MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

A wreck sent five people, including three children, to local hospitals Wednesday, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

The wreck happened around 5:26 p.m. Wednesday on Cairo Road in front of Rural King in McCracken County. Deputies say 24-year-old Lainey Lowery was stopped in her car while waiting to turn in to the Rural King parking lot when a van hit the rear of the car.

Deputies say the driver of the van, 27-year-old Lindsey Hite, told them one of her daughters was speaking to her when she was driving east on Cairo Road. They say she reported that she turned her head towards the back seat to hear her child. She reportedly told deputies when she turned her head back toward the roadway, she saw the car but didn't have time to stop before the van hit it.

Hite's two daughters — 2-year-old Sophia Hite and 3-year-old Josie Hite — and her son — 7 month old Nathaniel Hite — were all in the van in child seats.

Deputies say everyone involved in the wreck sustained "non-incapacitating injuries," and they were taken to local hospitals.

Mercy Regional EMS and Concord Fire Department assisted at the scene.
