I Am Local 6: Beloved guidance counselor Winnie Logan retires after 44 years

UNION CITY, TN -

Students at Union City High School in Tennessee have been knocking on Ms. Winnie Logan's door for more than 40 years.

"Students pop in and out," says Logan. "I never know who's going to fall through the door."

She started as a teacher when the building opened in 1972. Then in the 90s, she got a job as the school's guidance counselor.

"I've been here ever since," says Logan.

However, all good things must come to an end. Logan is retiring after this year.

"I will definitely miss the students," says Logan.

Students say they will also miss her.

"She's kind of like a best friend to me," says sophomore student Olivia Matherly.

"She is always here to talk if we ever need her," says high school junior Amber Weaks.

"Without her, I wouldn't know where I'm going or what I'm going to do after high school," says junior Tucker Kennedy.

"Ms. Logan has not only helped me with school work, but she's also helped me with personal problems," says high school junior Lilly Burcham.

Even though she's retiring, Logan says she'll never stop teaching.

"Not every day is perfect, but it's been fun," says Logan. "I have no regrets."

Logan says she's looking forward to spending more time with her family and plans on stopping by the high school every once in a while to catch up with former students.
