President Obama is beginning his Memorial Day weekend in Hiroshima. He arrived overnight Friday making him the first sitting U.S. President to visit the site of the atomic bombing.
The President arrived at the Hiroshima Peace Park Memorial with a helicopter and motorcade. He will lay a wreath at the site later Friday afternoon.
The President met with U.S. servicemen and their families in Hiroshima before he headed to the Memorial. He told the servicemen they are the "backbone of our alliance" and that he was visiting Hiroshima to honor the memory of all those who were lost in World War II.
