Family members say they lost a son and brother when a teen rodeo athlete died in a freak accident over the weekend.
Coy Lutz was a University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo athlete competing in New Jersey when, witnesses say, he was thrown from his horse and trampled. He died from his injuries Sunday.
But his sisters, Melanie Witherite and Laura Lutz, remember him as a loving brother and friend. They say he loved riding rodeo, his family, religion, and to work hard.
The sisters say their emotions come in waves, with laughter when remembering happy times with Coy and the grief when remembering their best friend who won't come back from the rodeo. They say they feel like he's still in college, and he's going to come home.
Melanie and Laura watched as their baby brother grew up into a man, and were excited to see where his life was going to take him.
The two say they take comfort knowing he had one final ride, and that's the way he wanted to go.
Melanie and Laura say they don't blame anyone, including the horse. They say Coy was always very careful and knew what to do. They say what happened to their brother was just an accident.
The family says the visitation will be Monday, June 6, at Beech Creek Wesleyan Church located at 217 Main Street Beech Creek, PA 16822 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. also at Beech Creek Wesleyan Church. He will be buried at Schencks Cemetery in Howard, Pennsylvania.
