CARTERVILLE, Ill. -

A southern Illinois park went from green to red, white and blue Monday.

In a salute to the military, the Carterville, Illinois, Lioness Club lined the popular Canon Park walking path with 360 flags, each representing someone who has died in military service or who is serving on active duty.

It's an emotional walk for many. The Lioness Club says the number of flags and walkers grows every year.

"People come all day long just to to look at the flags and reflect on what they mean and the sacrifice that these individuals made and that their families made in service to our country," said Margery Kemp, chairwoman of the Carterville Lioness Club Military Salute Committee.

This is the eighth year for the Lioness Club's military salute.
