A new company with 150 jobs and a $ 6.3 million dollar investment is now hiring.
This is the first time in more than 10 years Marshall County has had a new company with this many hires.
The company is Champion Home Builders. It's taking the place of a Fleetwood Homes manufacturing plant that closed about nine years ago.
The existing manufacturing building is a big reason Champion Homes went there, according to Marshall County Economic Development Director Joshua Tubbs.
Champion Homes hosted a job fair Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Joe Creason community building in Benton. It will host another job fair in the same time frame on Thursday.
Tubbs says this is the first company with this scale of job creation to come to the county in more than 10 years.
Champion Homes Human Resource Director Alicia Dickson says they are hiring in waves. She says just because you don't get an interview now, doesn't mean you won't be considered later.
“We only have a certain amount of positions available at this time. So, naturally we can't hire everyone. I'd love to hire everybody that shows up today. But we just can’t do it, because the startup process is a slow process. But we want to make sure we do it right,” Dickson said.
Dickson said Champion had 255 applicants with 45 interviews on Wednesday. It’s a turnout that makes Marshall County Judge Executive Kevin Neal happy.
“Anytime you're going to bring a 100 or 150 jobs, you know, the way we look at it is we didn't have those jobs. So, with them coming here and locating here, it gives the people in the community — and even the surrounding communities — the opportunity to go to work” Neal said.
Dickson says the company tends to use a lot of local vendors for lumber and plumbing supplies. Calvert Lumber is already supplying part for the plumbing in the remodeling process.
Champion Homes wants to start training on July 1 and hopes to start production around July 18
