Jackson House holds remembrance for fallen troops, residents who've passed

PADUCAH, KY -

A time of remembrance was observed Wednesday at the Jackson House in Paducah. They not only remembered fallen service members, but also their residents who died over the last year.

The bagpipes played as those gathered remembered their family and friends. Manager Shannon Tutor says it's an emotional experience, but not all sad.

"There's an element of pride that goes into any of the residents' sharing and talking about their loved ones," Tutor says.

Esta Smith spoke to the group. Her son, Aaron Torian, died in February of 2014 from an IED explosion in Afghanistan.

The Torian family is raising money to build a memorial for those killed in the global war on terrorism. They want to put it in Paducah's Dolly McNutt Plaza. Wednesday afternoon, the Jackson House and WB Sanders Retirement Center donated $500 to the cause
