SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -

Police are escorting the body of a Blue Angels pilot before it will be placed on a Navy aircraft for final transport home.

Capt. Jeff Kuss was killed when his  F/A-18 fighter jet crashed just after takeoff near Nashville Thursday during a practice flight. Kuss, who was 32, was preparing for an air show.

Smyrna Police said in a statement that the public was welcome to view the police procession Saturday from Murfreesboro to Smyrna.

The military's elite fighter jet performance teams suffered crashes on Thursday. A member of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds crashed in Colorado after a flyover for the Air Force Academy graduation where President Obama spoke. That pilot was able to eject safely.

Both incidents are under investigation.
