Progress is being made down I-69 South. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet kicking off another phase of reconstruction on the interchange.
Orange barrels and road monitors are already out in advance to Monday's ramp closure. Interstate 24 at the Purchase Parkway is a highly traveled interstate where drivers move along at speeds reaching 70mph.
Starting Monday at 7 a.m., speeds will be reduced to 55mph. What will possibly delay drivers more that the reduced speed is the daytime closure of the I-24 eastbound exit 25-B ramp to the Purchase Parkway northbound lanes. "If I know there is something going on, I try to go a different way to avoid it in order to get where I need to go," said Holly Smith.
Message boards will guide driving eastbound on I-24 from 7am to 5pm. Drivers will be directed to the Calvert City exit 27 interchange. Mike Mammoser shared he tends to stay ahead of delays and standstills. "Just having some of the apps that are available now especially through the I-phone you can see where traffic is being rerouted. So that's what I rely on," said Mammoser
After the reconstruction is finished, people will be able to drive I-69 South along the Parkway. This $37.8 million dollar project is expected to be finished July 2018. Monday's ramp closure should not disrupt drivers traveling the main line of I-24.
