A Mayfield, Kentucky, man had to be airlifted to a Nashville, Tennessee, hospital after a crash involving a motorcycle and a SUV in McCracken County.

Around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy was heading home at the end of his shift in his personal vehicle when the sheriff's department says he came across the scene of a collision between a small SUV and a motorcycle on Husbands Road. The deputy contacted central dispatch about the collision and began rendering medical attention to the motorcyclist.

Other deputies arrived, and the sheriff's department says they learned the SUV driver, 52-year-old James Ezell of Boaz, was headed northbound on Husbands Road when he made a left turn at the intersection with Old Husbands Road that put him into the path of a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Michael Phillips of Mayfield.

Phillips, who the sheriff's department says was wearing a helmet when the wreck happened, suffered injuries described as incapacitating. He was airlifted by Air Evac to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Husbands Road was closed for a period of about 30 minutes for the investigation,to facilitate the helicopter landing, and for cleanup.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Mercy Regional EMS, the Reidland-Farley Fire department, Meadows Towing and Air Evac Air Ambulance Service.
