WEST FRANKFORT, IL -

A tractor-trailer fire shut down Interstate 57 just north of West Frankfort, Illinois, Friday afternoon, according to Illinois State Police.

State police say around 2:24 p.m. Friday, the driver of a northbound tractor-trailer noticed a large amount of fluid leaking from the vehicle and pulled over to check what was causing it.

Troopers say when the driver opened the hood, the engine was on fire. The fire spread rapidly and the entire cab and front half of the trailer were consumed by flames. West City and West Frankfort fire departments responded to put out the fire. The roadway was shut down about an hour and a half to get the fire under control before one lane could be reopened. All lanes were reopened at 7:05 p.m.
