Mark this Saturday on your calendars. Everything on the lakefront property pictured here — the land, the guns, the equipment — is up for auction as part of an estate sale. But the money you spend at the auction is going toward a much greater cause.
It’s a peaceful home on Lake Barkley in a quiet subdivision, but for Ron Connor, it's where his friend Bill Berry — Uncle Bill to his children — lived.
“I think the first day I moved here we just hit it off and were friends from day one," Connor says.
Connor says Berry was a man who loved people. Connor was Berry's friend, neighbor, and caretaker until Berry died peacefully in his home
Berry's wife, Barbara, died before him, and their child, Dana Sue, was stillborn. And that's why Connor says his friend wanted everything he owned to help profit St. Jude.
“If he could just save one child, it's worth it. That was his thoughts on that: What if he could save a Dana Sue?” Conner says.
Everything in the house will be sold at auction, even the smallest things. For Conner, he will always treasure the memories he had in this home. But it's his friend's legacy of helping people, especially children, that he'll remember the most.
The auction will be June 18 in Eddyville, Kentucky.
