Miss Illinois contestants traded tiaras for tool belts Monday afternoon.
The women braved the afternoon heat to help Habitat for Humanity build a home in Herrin, Illinois. Miss Illinois 2015 Crystal Davis says, over the years, countless contestants have left their mark on homes like the one they worked on Monday.
She says it’s an important tradition, because it directly helps people in need right here in the community.
"Service is definitely the most important aspect, and this is what we're here for. We're not here for glamorous reasons. We're doing this to help someone who needs it,” said Davis.
The Miss Illinois opening ceremony will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Marion. For a full list of the week’s events, click here.
