A West Tennessee lawmaker will give away two AR-15 rifles. That is not the in the same family of rifles used in Sunday's mass shooting in Orlando, Florida. but it is similar.

State Rep. Andy Holt is hosting a hog festival and turkey shoot on June 25. The Dresden Republican says the prize will encourage people to protect themselves.

"Why do we see repeated use of the AR-15? Well, Because it's interviews just like this. It's because of the media's absolute infatuation with the AR-15." said Holt, speaking about the shooter's weapon.

Tennessee Democratic Party Chairwoman Mary Mancini released this statement: "We're furious that, in the wake of this tragedy, State Rep. Andy Holt is being such a reckless and irresponsible gun owner. Andy Holt doesn't know if he's putting the winning raffle ticket in the hands of the next mass shooter."

Holt says his staff received threats after announcing the AR-15s as prizes. He says the calls came from an anonymous Memphis-based male.

Tennessee state troopers are investigating the threats.
