City accepts police chief resignation

Posted: Updated:
CAIRO, IL -

The city of Cairo, Illinois, will soon begin a search for its next police chief.

John Bosecker, chief for nearly two years, resigned last week. Cairo Police Commissioner Danny Brown says the announcement came as a shock. He says together he and Bosecker accomplished a great deal for the town.

Brown says he's sad to see Bosecker leave but wishes him well.

Cairo's mayor says the city has verbally accepted the resignation of the chief and is now finalizing it. Once the formal acceptance is made by the Cairo City Council, the search for a replacement will be made.

In the meantime, the Alexander County Sheriff's Department will be helping the town with any policing needs.
