PADUCAH, KY -

A potential new ally in the effort to make the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site a viable employer for years to come spoke with local leaders Wednesday.

Newly appointed Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Charles Snavely spoke with county and city leaders Wednesday at the Country Club of Paducah after visiting the now Department of Energy cleanup site.

He told the crowd it's a good thing so many are still employed at the site.

"But it also is creates risk for the future on how is that going to be sustainable and what are you going to do in the future," Snavely says.

McCracken County Judge Executive Bob Leeper and Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler each say they're encouraged by the understanding the secretary seems to have of the need to keep Paducah's trained workforce employed.

Kaler says she hopes he'll accompany the Chamber of Commerce to Washington, D.C. in the future.
