Carlisle County judge enters not-guilty plea for woman accused of shooting, killing husband

CARLISLE COUNTY, KY -

A Carlisle County court judge entered a not-guilty plea for a Bardwell woman accused of shooting her husband and another man.

Martha Ligon is charged with murder in the death of her husband.

Kentucky State Police say Ligon shot her husband and another man who stopped to see if everything was okay.

Her husband did not survive.

In court on Wednesday, Ligon yelled that she killed him.

Ligon did not have an attorney when she arrived for the hearing. That's when the judge appointed public defender Angela Troutman to Ligon's case.

Troutman said Ligon will undergo a psychological evaluation Wednesday afternoon. She says she still has to learn more about Ligon and the case, but that she is handling the case "with care."

Ligon's next court date will depend on the outcome of her mental evaluation.
