Posted: Updated:

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has declared a state of emergency Thursday in response to flooding in west Kentucky.

Bevin's office said in a news release that the declarations is made to provide local officials immediate access to state resources to help with flooding.

“As always, our primary concern is safety,” Bevin said. “This declared state of emergency gives emergency management the resources they need to proactively respond to local needs. We thank all of the officials working hard to minimize the impact of this storm system. We urge all citizens to take the necessary precautions needed to stay safe.”

The State Emergency Operations Center and the Joint Information Center are activated to monitor what's happening and coordinate the response for the weather event, Bevin's office said.
