SALINE COUNTY, IL -
First responders are warning you to avoid rivers and creeks.
The sheriff in Saline County, Illinois, says a man had to be rescued after his kayak overturned in South Fork Creek, just south of Carrier Mills.
In a news release Thursday, Sheriff Keith Brown says 19-year-old Jordan Mitchell of Carrier Mills decided to go kayaking with a 17-year-old friend. The kayak overturned, and the minor was able to make it out of the creek. Mitchell made it to some tree limbs, and Brown says he hung onto them until he was rescued by a boat from the Carrier Mills Fire Department.
The sheriff says the south fork of the Saline River rose to nearly 14 feet Thursday afternoon and is still rising.
