Academic year to start on time for new South Marshall Middle School

Posted: Updated:
MARSHALL CO, Ky -

School will start on time: That's what Marshall County school administrators say about the new South Marshall Middle School.

Parents may be nervous about the start date, but some say they're excited.

A day at the pool means school is far from their minds, but when August rolls around, Cathy Maddox says she and her daughter, Chandler, are looking forward to a new school.

“She’s very excited about making new friends," Maddox says.

Superintendent Trent Lovett says week after week he has checked on the school's progress. He says for a school that looks far from finished on the outside, it’s what's on the inside that matters.

“There is no doubt. I think the inside of this building will be ready to start school," Lovett says.

The last thing to be completed will be the landscape and the athletic fields. Crews will still be finishing up those tasks when students are in school.

“The plan is to get in the school and provided any major difficulties. I think we're going to make it," Lovett says.

But until the doors open at the new school, Maddox says their plan A for the summer is the pool.

Lovett says the date construction is slated to be finished is Aug. 8. School starts Aug. 11. He says if construction isn't finished on time, they could delay the start of school for the district a couple of days. If it's longer than a couple of days, students will start school in the old buildings.
