City applying for grants for E911 services

PADUCAH, KY -

Paducah is applying for an award it can use for a new phone system for its E911 service to better respond to emergencies.

City commissioners agreed Tuesday to apply for an EMA Special Project award through the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, requesting a grant award of $119,904.50  to buy the phone system, which is estimated to cost nearly $240,000.

If the grant is funded, the city is required to spend an equal amount.

The city also applied for a grant through the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security for the project. If that grant is awarded, the city says those funds would be applied to the required funding match for the Emergency Management grant.
