Wreck on I-24 bridge sends 2 to hospital

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

A three vehicle wreck on the Interstate 24 bridge connecting McCracken County and Metropolis, Illinois, sent two people to local hospitals Tuesday.

McCracken County sheriff's deputies say around 5 p.m. Tuesday a vehicle lost a tire westbound on the bridge, and the vehicle became immobile. When the vehicle stopped, a tractor-trailer behind it had to change lanes to avoid hitting it.

When the semi changed lanes, deputies say a Dodge pickup truck driven by 67-year-old Paul Young of Metropolis, Illinois, slowed in response. A Kia SUV behind the Dodge, driven by 53-year-old Linda Jacobs of Metropolis, was unable to stop in time and rear-ended Young’s vehicle. After Jacobs struck Young, a Jeep Commander driven by 23-year-old Cara Stout of Vienna was also unable to stop in time and rear-ended Jacobs’ vehicle and Young’s.

Young and Stout were taken to local hospitals for non-incapacitating injuries.

The I-24 west bridge was shut down for an hour.
