West Marshall Fire Department awarded federal grant over $20K

The West Marshall Fire Department in Benton, Kentucky, has been awarded a federal grant of over $20,000, according to U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield's office. It's one of four fire departments in west Kentucky awarded federal grants Thursday. 

West Marshall Fire Department will get $21,372. 

The congressman's office says the Operations and Safety grants are provided through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters grant program. Whitfield's office said in a news release Wednesday that West Marshall and other fire departments getting the grants can use them for "professional training, wellness and fitness programs equipment, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety."

Two fire departments in Hopkins County and one in Christian County have also been awarded Operations and Safety grants 

Other departments receiving the grants are Richland Volunteer Fire Department in Madisonville, Grapevine Community Volunteer Fire Department in Madisonville,  and Northwest Volunteer Fire Department in Crofton. 

Richland Volunteer Fire Department will get $100,533. 

Grapevine Community Volunteer Fire Department will get $4,959.

Northwest Volunteer Fire Department will get $61,500.
