Checking on neighbors during extreme heat can save lives

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is urging you to get to know your neighbors.

Last week, high temperatures killed an elderly woman at her home in Missouri.

Chief Deputy Mike Turnbow says if we look out for each other, we can help prevent a tragedy like this.

"Especially if they're elderly people," says Turnbow. "Just go, knock on the door and ask them how they're doing. If you don't feel comfortable doing that and you think something might be wrong or you just really want them checked on, we will do it."

Turnbow says if you see a child or a dog left in a hot car, call 911 immediately.
