PADUCAH, Ky -

McCracken County school leaders are considering a number of new projects impacting your child. Board members met Thursday in a special called session.

Board members discussed several items, including solar panels and new athletic facilities this year. Jackson Purchase and Big Rivers made a presentation about a solar panel project to the board. The project would not only help the local power supplier start incorporating more solar power locally, but Superintendent Quin Sutton says students would also benefit.

“It gives our students at the high school the opportunity to go out there and look at what solar panels look like" Sutton says. "And it also allows our other students in middle and elementary to have access to the curriculum as well.”

Sutton said Jackson Purchase was considering putting the panels near the football field. Second on the list, the board discussed possible new tennis and wrestling buildings at McCracken County High school.

“Anytime you have facilities like that on campus, it just presents more opportunities for all our students," Sutton says.

The tennis building's estimated to cost $3 million, and the wrestling building is estimated at $1.5 million. Neither proposal was approved by the board Thursday night, but the solar panel project is expected to be brought before the board for a vote next month.

The issue of school uniforms was brought before the board briefly, but the board said they did not have enough information to adequately discuss the issue.
