KyMEA signs power supply contract with Big Rivers Electric

In a deal that could affect your power bills, Big Rivers Electric Corporation has signed a 10-year contract to provide power to the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency.
Big Rivers, which is in Henderson, announced the power supply contract on Thursday, July 28. The company said the agreement was authorized on July 13. Big Rivers says it will provide KyMEA with between 75 and 100 megawatts starting in June of 2019, and the supply could increase by 50 MW later in the contract.
Bardwell in Carlisle County is a KyMEA member, as are three other cities near our area: Madisonville in Hopkins County, Providence in Webster County, and Owensboro in Daviess County. The agency also includes the cities of Barbourville, Benham, Corbin, Falmouth, Frankfort and Paris.
