Marrow Donor Registry Drives

Posted: Updated:

It's a disease that connects millions of people around the world, cancer. Cancer happens to be the common thread between 3-month-old Scarlett Jernigan and 55-year-old Rick Yates.

Three weeks ago, during Donor Days, you met Scarlett. She's been fighting the life-threatening disease HLH since shortly after birth. According to her parents, Scarlett has three bone marrow matches and will receive a transplant soon, which should cure her of HLH.

Rick Yates is also on the bone marrow transplant list. Three months ago he was diagnosed with AML, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A rare form of blood cancer. Yates says he has a 20% chance of survival. With a bone marrow transplant his chances are doubled.

Would you like to save a life? You have the chance at one of two Marrow Donor Registry Drives. The first one is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 29th, at Marshall Nemer Pavilion in the Borders Community Room at Lourdes Hospital, in Paducah. The second drive is Saturday, July 30th, at Gospel Mission Worship Center, in Reidland, Kentucky, from 9 a.m to 1 p.m.
