Newly hired Sikeston, Missouri, teacher arrested on sexual offense in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

A man who was set to begin teaching in the Sikeston R-6 School District in Missouri has been arrested by Kentucky State Police on a child sexual exploitation charge.

KSP says 40-year-old David Jordan was arrested around 4:40 p.m. Thursday by the KSP Electronic Crime Branch on a charge of prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor/police officer referencing sexual offenses.

Sikeston R-6 Schools says it has been notified by KSP about the arrest. The school system says Jordan was offered a teaching position in June for the upcoming school year, but he hadn't begun teaching yet and has had no contact with Sikeston students.

The school district notes that Jordan had a valid teaching certificate and cleared a background check before he was offered the job. Now, however, he has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.

A copy of the police citation obtained by Local 6 says Jordan used an online chat system to communicate with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl through an online undercover investigation. The citation says he traveled to Kentucky from Missouri to have sexual contact with the person he thought was a minor. He was arrested in Frankfort.

As part of the investigation, KSP says Jordan's vehicle was searched and electronic equipment was seized to be examined. He was jailed in the Franklin County Detention Center, and KSP says more charges are expected.
