Court documents show the men allegedly traveled from Kansas to Jackson County, Illinois, to kill Darien Williams-Wright, Judios Kizeart and Robert Harris, who are listed as witnesses in the case. We have called investigators in Illinois and Kansas. No one has confirmed whether Lewis, McCray and Karcher are accused of shooting Carbondale police officer Trey Harris.
None of the agencies involved in the investigation will talk about the case.
Through the Freedom of Information Act request, Local 6 received documents with more information from the Carbondale Police Department about the night of the shooting.
The documents say another officer, who we learned is Corey Brinkley, drove the patrol car Harris was in. Police say a chase started when officers saw a Pontiac Grand Prix speeding from the area. It ended when Harris was shot by one of the men they were chasing.
Mayor Mike Henry has said the bullet hit Harris in the face.
The three men arrested in Kansas are at the Saline County, Kansas, Jail. The deputy jailer told me the the Jackson County, Illinois, State's Attorney has to file an arrest warrant for the men to be sent back to Illinois. That has not happened yet.
If found guilty of the conspiracy charge, Karcher, Lewis and McCray face between nine and 41 years in prison.
