Demolition continues on Old Eggners Ferry Bridge piers

Posted: Updated:
MARSHALL COUNTY, KY -

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a contractor is chipping away at the piers on the old Eggners Ferry Bridge in preparation for blasts to underwater sections around the end of the month.

KYTC says the contractor's goal is to chip the main piers town to water level so the underwater sections can be blasted around the end of August.

The cabinet says the first pier being chipped is tougher than originally expected because the materials used in the 1930s are more dense than what is used today, but KYTC says the demolition team is persistently continuing the work.

We brought you images from the bridge when implosion work was done last month. That work took down the spans of the bridge.
