Jay Rogers begins new, but familiar business venture

Posted: Updated:

"It's a big step for me to be able to walk in here and not have a fear," Jay Rogers told Local 6 about his new distillery business venture.

He admits that fear is fading.  He was severely burned in a distillery explosion in April 2015.  Kyle Rogers was also injured, but did not survive.

Since that time, Rogers has had the desire to return to the business he says he loves and now he's getting that opportunity by becoming a partner in Silent Brigade Distillery in downtown Paducah.  "I just want to make sure that I can pay back to the distillery community the love and the support they have me while I was out," he said.

The new partnership will allow the store to make and sell his LBL products in Paducah.  He will also be an honorary master distiller and often gives speeches about safety.  It's one of the reasons he does not want to give up.

"That's the one thing I've wanted to make sure that has come about through my accident - is that we make craft distillery a safer place to work," he said.

Rogers' new journey will include help from his service dog.  Doctors have not cleared him to work, but he knows it's a matter of time before he's back on top.

"I still do a lot of physical therapy. I still have some surgical procedures that are left to go," he said.

Rogers is a candidate for laser surgery that will help clear up some of his scaring and nerve damage.  He expects Silent Brigade Distillery to begin making his LBL products within a month.
