Two people were arrested Wednesday on methamphetamine trafficking charges after a traffic stop, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

The traffic stop was conducted around 1:25 p.m. Wednesday in the 2500 block of Jackson Street, and 23-year-old Destiny Elder and 31-year-old Deantonio McGee were arrested. Deputies say the stop was conducted to pursue a search warrant detective had that gave them the authority to search that vehicle, its occupants and their residence.

Deputies say 35 grams of crystal meth, more than $2,000, digital scales, a Ruger 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, and other drug-related items were found in the vehicle, a 2004 Cadillac. A search of a home on Clark Street uncovered additional drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to deputies.

Elder was charged with first degree meth trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of marijuana. McGee was charged with first degree meth trafficking.

Elder and McGee were jailed in the McCracken County Regional Jail.

The two were also wanted by McCracken County Animal Control, each facing 27 counts of animal abuse
