Here are six things to know for today.

Firefighters are working to control two widespread fires in California. The Blue Cut fire is now 22% contained but has charred 31,000 acres. Another fire, the Rey fire, is 20% contained and has burned 600 acres.

Floodwaters are starting to recede in Louisiana as clean up efforts are underway. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and running mate Mike Pence will tour the damage today. Thirteen people have died as a result of the flooding.

US Olympics swimmer Jimmy Feigen will pay nearly $11,000 to charity just so he can leave Brazil. He's one of four US swimmers embattled in the investigation surrounding false claims that the men were victims of an armed robbery in Rio. Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger returned home to the US earlier this morning.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is acknowledging that his caustic comments may have caused people pain. Trump says he regrets some of what he's said "in the heat of debate."

Tropical storm Kay is the 11th named storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season. Early this morning, the storm was still several hundred miles south of Mexico. The hurricane prediction center says this will be a short-lived storm and will have very little impact in Baja California.

One of the greatest sprinters of all time is retiring. Usain Bolt announced that today's race, the 4x100 relay will be his final one. Bolt has already won two gold medals this Olympics, 8 total in his career.
