Marion airport terminal, behind schedule, to open this fall
MARION, Ill. (AP) -
A new terminal at the Williamson County Regional Airport — a project stalled this summer — will be complete by next month but not occupied.
Doug Kimmel is manager of the Marion airport. He tells the Southern Illinoisan he'd hoped to have the current terminal removed by Veterans Day for a grand opening.
Kimmel says the state budget debacle was "an unwarranted interruption" that cost several weeks of construction time. A temporary budget lawmakers adopted in June allowed construction to continue but it took several weeks to gear up again.
The $14 million, 23,000-square-foot project has been months behind schedule for more than a year because of rainy weather.
