Here are six things to know for today.

Much of the southern east coast is under storm watches and warning as tropical storm Hermine approaches land. In Hawaii, forecasters have downgraded Madeline from a hurricane to a tropical storm.

Rescue crews are working to repair a road that is critical to relief in Amatrice. The road is the main corridor between Amatrice and a neighboring town where relief materials are stored right now.

A semi fire is blocking the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 near mile marker 31. Cargo in the trailer caught on fire around 1:00 a.m. The driver was not injured.

We'll follow developments in the case against Robert Lambert today. He will have a preliminary hearing this afternoon. He is accused of stabbing and killing Jerry Staten.
