GRAVES COUNTY, KY -

A man has died in a wreck in Graves County involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The Graves County Sheriff's Department has released the man's name.

KYTC says the wreck happened on Kentucky 131 near the 5 mile marker. The road was closed for a few hours at the site of the wreck. It is back open to traffic at this time.

The Graves County Sheriff's Department says 88-year-old Johnie Scoggins was outside using a weed eater on the west side of the roadway when he tried to cross KY 131 from west to east.

When he tried to cross, deputies say Scoggins was hit by a southbound vehicle driven by 25-year-old Devin Carlton of Hickory. Deputies say Carlton told them he applied his breaks and tried to swerve into the other lane to avoid Scoggins, but Scoggins was hit by the vehicle.

The sheriff's office is investigating and performing crash reconstruction.

In addition to the sheriff's office, Kentucky State Police, Mayfield-Graves County EMS, the Kentucky Highway Department, the Clear Springs Fire Department and the Graves County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene of the wreck.
