KSP pursuit leads to crash, search for suspect

GRAVES Co, Ky -

A Calloway County deputy was sent to the hospital after a pursuit and a crash Friday night.

KSP says Trooper Aaron Jestes noticed a silver 2002 Pontiac Sunfire commit a traffic violation in Graves County.  He attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver of the Pontiac did not stop.

KSP says the driver crossed into Calloway County from 464.  The driver then made several turns in an attempt to elude police before turning onto Norsworthy Road where he turned into the yard of a home.

The driver then began to drive northbound through a field.  KSP says Calloway County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Amberg joined the pursuit in an assist capacity and took the lead in the pursuit after Tpr. Jestes had a mechanical failure with his cruiser.  The pursuit continued through the field and the Pontiac ran through a barbwire fence before colliding with a tree.

KSP says Deputy Amberg attempted to slow to a stop, however, the wet grass in the field prevented the vehicle from slowing enough to come to a stop.  Deputy Amberg's 2013 Ford Explorer collided with the back of the Pontiac.  The driver of the Pontiac ran from the scene and has not been found.

KSP wants anyone with information about the whereabouts of the Pontiac driver to contact Tpr. Paul Berhow with KSP Post 1 at 270-856-3721.

Deputy Amberg was taken to Murray-Calloway County Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
