Illinois man sentenced to prison for exploitation of an elderly person

An Orient, Illinois man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to exploiting an elderly person.

On September 24, 2015, the Carbondale Police Department began an investigation into the possible financial exploitation of a 69-year-old from Carbondale.

Detectives say 53-year-old Jack Stanley had been charging the victim over-inflated prices for yard and house work.

Bank records were obtained during the investigation.

Detectives say over a period of three years, Stanley and other charged the victim more than $63,000 for simple yard work such as trimming bushes and trees. Stanley also charged over-inflated prices for simple home repair work such as painting a shutter or awnings on the victim's home.

Stanley pleaded guilty to financial exploitation of an elderly person on September 6. He was sentenced to nine years in prison with a two year mandatory supervised release.
