A family court judge in Kentucky has been suspended for seven days by the state's judicial disciplinary commission.
The Judicial Conduct Commission said Monday that Fayette County family court Judge Kathy Stein was disciplined for violating ethics standards. It says Stein cooperated with the investigation, waived formal proceedings and agreed to the order.
The commission says its preliminary investigation showed an attorney representing the father in a custody case approached Stein last December. The attorney asked Stein to give the father immediate, temporary custody of the couple's child.
It says Stein granted the request without a hearing or giving the mother a chance to respond. It says the father "absconded" with the child to Mississippi and remained there until the child was ordered returned by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
