Railroad crossing removal to begin at busy Paducah intersection

PADUCAH, KY -

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says some lanes have reopened that were part of a closure at a busy intersection on Paducah's southside, but others remain in place overnight.

Work resumes at the intersection on Thursday, and is likely to continue Friday, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Crews are working on removing a rail crossing at the intersection of US 60/Beltline Highway/Irvin Cobb Drive and KY 284/Bridge Street.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says because the rail crossing runs diagonally through the intersection, there is not enough room for both streets of traffic to travel through the intersection while work is ongoing.

That is why they have closed Bridge Street at the intersection. Northbound Bridge Street traffic will detour via Maggie Street while southbound traffic will detour via Legion Drive.

East and westbound US 60 traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone and will not be able to turn at the intersection.

Crews are removing the tracks and paving over the area. Work is expected to take about three days to complete.

Drivers should consider using an alternative route if possible.
