Paducah discusses dog muzzle ordinance

Posted: Updated:

There was a heated discussion Tuesday night by the Paducah Board of Commissioners over bringing your dog to events in Paducah like Barbecue on the River.

The discussion started after Mayor Gayle Kaler proposed removing a requirement for dogs to wear muzzles at special events.

Kaler says the rule, which has been in place for 10 years, is difficult to regulate.

Commissioner Richard Abraham felt the city should either crack down on having pet owners get their dogs the correct muzzles or not allow dogs at certain events.

Police Chief Brandon Barnhill said the ordinance is making Paducah seem like it is not a dog friendly city.

Commissioner Allen Rhodes added that there was no mention of dog muzzles in ordinances for Nashville, Portland, or Austin.
