Chief deputy appointed to finish term after longtime sheriff's death

FULTON COUNTY, KY -

For the first time in 22 years, The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is acting without its longtime sheriff Bobby Hopper. Per state statute, the county judge executive is supposed to appoint a new sheriff to finish the rest of Hoppers term.

Judge Executive Jim Martin appointed Chief Deputy Robby Woods.

Hopper passed away last week after battling colon cancer.

Woods says this week has been difficult for the department, but he plans to continue it as best he can the way Hopper would have wanted it. "What he taught me all these years, that's what I'm going to apply to the guys under me as we go along," Woods said Thursday.
