Failed insurer's customers face deadline to find new plan

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (AP) -

Illinois insurance regulators are reminding customers of Land of Lincoln Health that they must enroll in a new health insurance policy with a different company by the end of the month or they'll have a gap in coverage.

Land of Lincoln began shutting down in July after crippling financial losses. The 3-year-old nonprofit's failure left 49,000 Illinois policyholders searching for new coverage.

Illinois Department of Insurance Acting Director Anne Melissa Dowling issued a news release Friday reminding any customers who haven't yet found new health insurance that their Land of Lincoln coverage ends Sept. 30.

Customers can shop for new coverage at HealthCare.gov or contact an insurance broker.

Land of Lincoln was a federally funded, nonprofit health insurer created under the Affordable Care Act.
