LOUISVILLE, KY -

A debate between two candidates running for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky has been canceled because one candidate decided to not participate.

The League of Women Voters of Kentucky had planned to hold a debate between Senator Rand Paul and Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.

Both men are running for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

The League of Women Voters of Kentucky said they had to cancel the debate after Paul declined to participate. Gray had accepted the invitation.

The debate was scheduled for October 30 at the University of Kentucky and was to be broadcasted live.

Paul's campaign said he had accepted to debate Gray at a different event hosted by Kentucky Educational Television.

That debate will be held on October 31 and will be televised across the state on Kentucky Tonight.
