PADUCAH, KY -

Local representatives recently participated in a UNESCO Creative Cities Network meeting in Sweden, and Paducah will host ambassadors from other Creative Cities around the world next year.

Paducah Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Mary Hammond and American Quilter's Society Executive Show Director Bonnie Browning recently took part in the 10th annual meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Östersund, Sweden.

While there, they invited the members from other UNESCO Creative Cities of Crafts and Folk Art to meet in Paducah in September of 2017 to share strategies for developing the arts, building a local arts identity and strategic development. The Paducah Convention and Visitors Bureau says that event will be the first formal annual meeting of members on that topic.

“We are excited to host ambassadors from Creative Cities around the world in 2017,” Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler said in the meeting announcement, sent Thursday. “The relationships we have formed within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network have opened up doors into other cultures, promoted international cooperation and allowed us to expand and promote our own creative initiatives. We look forward to this unique opportunity for Paducah to showcase its innovations on a global platform.”

The network is made up of 116 cities and 54 countries, focusing on showcasing and sharing creative initiatives.
